Show me the money

A man’s wallet is in many ways a more important item than a purse to a woman. A wallet, precisely unlike a purse, is not something that is coordinated daily to one’s outfit. Rather, a wallet is almost a more intimate and personal object, as it is, in a sense, a constant companion through the good times and bad. I have used the same brown leather Gianco Ferre wallet for the past five years and it has served me faithfully since the first day.

The key to preserving a wallet is to not load it up with unnecessary things. If you collect receipts, it’s always a good idea to take them out at the end of the day rather than let them accumulate. If you have many credit cards, carry the ones you use most often instead of trying to force them into limited slots.

For those vestigial holdouts who have not yet seen the light and realized the utility of carrying some form of a man bag, a wallet is the sole means by which to organize and hold all the daily necessities. The important thing is to choose a wallet that is most in keeping with your lifestyle.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “He that displays too often his wife and his wallet is in danger of having both of them borrowed.” While no one says that you should blatantly flash your wallet in the faces of others, some wallets are too attractive not to be shown off a bit.

This first wallet is the most traditional in terms of design and functionality. Besides the billfold compartment and the slots for credit cards, it also has two side pockets, useful for storing things that don’t need to be as readily accessed. The anchor pattern gives the wallet a bit of edge and fun that separate it from more mundane pieces.
Jack Spade, $125

Tri-fold wallets such as this one add another dimension (literally) of style and are in between a regular wallet and a credit card holder. The benefits of a wallet such as this one is that it is almost impossible to load it up with junk, meaning it will stay slim in your pocket. The leather here is beautiful and the silver hardware adds to its beauty and sophistication.

For people who like to deal in cold, hard cash, a money clip is the best option. This one is simple, sleek and a good companion for your Benjamins.
Dior, $110
